     FORTITUDE RAIDS!

It's party time! With this latest update, we're adding a brand new island somewhere in the world (cough cough, check #❓gm-teaser on Discord). What is it for? iunno

Probably the brand new category of raids: Fortitude raids! These are extra-difficulty endurance-style raids tuned for high level characters.

In addition, we've made minor improvements to a few spawns, notably the Great Pyramid (both normal and void) and some low-level spawns northwest of Naratar.

Finally, we've added 11 new experience quests in the following ranges:

  • 4 for newbies (<1 mil exp)
  • 4 for mid-level (1-10 mil exp)
  • 3 for high-levels (11+ mil exp)

     60 BRAND NEW "EXPERIENCE" QUESTS!

Thanks to a wonderful bit of coding and some lore infusion into the world of Solus, there are now experience-granting quests, go find them all :D

  • We have introduced new experience quests! These are similar to normal quests - look closely at your surroundings for a flash of color, and interact with unusual or peculiar things in the world.
  • 60 new experience quests have been added, ranging from 10,000 experience to over 75 million experience
  • Over 400,000 experience can be earned just within Naratar city limits and the PVP Arena
  • Explorers have discovered a long lost tribe of caveman on an island connected to the south of Mystic Island
  • Daily bonuses will now be broadcast on Discord

Special thanks for the cavemen go to @Phoenix on the creature design, and @Fork on the map design!

     AFREET MORT

You may recognize our new area as a Tibia classic. Fight the new Afreet Mort, a death djinn that promises your doom. Where, you ask? Close to Naratar - among the Behemoths underneath the goblin camp, east of town!

  • A challenging hunting ground for mid-to-high level characters
  • Enjoy the new quest for level 650+ characters
  • Improved logic for selecting bonus experience monsters
  • Reduced the difficulty experience penalty from 20% to 10%
  • Reduced PZ lock from 20 seconds to 15 seconds

     LOW-LEVEL RANK BUFFS

Last night (about 24 hours ago) we deployed a MAJOR BUFF to many lower level characters, specifically those between rank 1 and rank 40. How big? BIG!

  • Rank 5: 40% more damage
  • Rank 10: 50% more damage
  • Rank 20: 37% more damage
  • Rank 30: 20% more damage
  • Rank 40: 8% more damage

The goal of this change was to improve some of the slower levels that previously would tend to "drag on" a little longer than we intended. Please enjoy a much smoother trip to rank 75!

Also, I recommend that new players aim for 3 ranks before Rebirthing, which is level 160.

     RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE

Rumble in the Jungle has occurred! A vast, magically imbued tower filled with arcane beings has risen out of the ocean, spearing through the former city of Marika and destroying it completely!

This new hunting ground was created by our very own, @Fork, (thanksfork!), and is an excellent mid-level hunt for 200-600 mages and distance fighters, and includes a new quest, new rares, and new decor!

In addition, the Epic Monster Overhaul is now live!

Every single epic monster has been revised with improved combat behavior, better exp:hp ratio for many harder or tankier monsters, as well as revised summon costs for all mage and necromancer summons.

     NEW VOCATION: BARD!

Come try out the brand new vocation, spearheaded by our one-and-only @Chumba!

These melodic swordsmen (and women) use the power of song and blade to inspire allies and exterminate foes!

Our second support vocation, Bards provide healing and buffs to allies while melting foes with the new weapon class: **Instruments**. Capable of dual wielding an instrument and a sword, bards fling song and spell while they dance through combat with their blade.

THE ATTACKENING - SMOOTH ATTACKS, NEW SPELLS, MONSTER IMPROVEMENTS, AND MORE!

There are a TON of fantastic changes in this patch, as well as several patches we've had in the last week that we'll go over today!

Enhancements

  • MANA RUNES have been added! Gone with backpack and mana fluid management!
  • Attacks are now much smoother, if you leave the attack range of a monster and come back after your attack cooldown, you will attack instantly, instead of occasionally having a delay before attacking.
  • Dual wielding vocations will now launch their attacks as a 1-2 punch, instead of both attacks happening instantly and it being difficult to see that you were, in fact, dual wielding.
  • Level doors can now go up to level 2000... just in case.
Spells & Vocations
  • Ammo (bolts, arrows) now only has a 20% chance to deplete - fire away!
  • New spell: Extinguish - get rid of that pesky fire.
  • New Pirate spell to replace Berserk, Melee Barrage!
  • New Pirate spell to replace Flame Burst, Explosive Cask!
  • Pirate: Hand Cannon and Long Cannon have been reworked with more damage and aiming on your battle target
  • Pirate: Chug a Jug properly chugs
  • Pirate: Armor multiplier increased from 70% -> 100%
  • Necromancer: Base summon limit decreased from 6 -> 5
  • All Mages: Charmer's Tiara now only grants a summon to Sorcerers and Druids (each mage class has access to +1 summon)
  • Sorcerers & Druid: Every summon's mana cost has been reduced
  • Assassin: Rage spell renamed to Bloodlust (with new words), and increases attack speed by 33%
  • Knight: Rage spell's duration increased to 7 seconds
  • Rune weight now scales with charges, but not as heavy as other stackables
  • Improved the Create Food spells
  • The effect of Ranks on capacity has been reduced by 40%
Monsters

Among other changes, we wanted to really improve the hunts for a lot of unloved creatures, especially those with high armor. We have completed rebalanced the loot tables of most of these creatures.

In addition, we have the first step toward the Epic Overhaul! We are previewing the new and improved version of 10 monsters, shown below, with their new epic stats. Beware of more frequent combos and a bit less loot, but enjoy a ton more experience, a lot less speed, and many other tweaks!
  • Epic Overhaul Preview: Behemoth, Bone Beast, Dragon, Dragon Lord, Hero, Samurai, Samurai Lord, Samurai Master, Serpent Spawn, Undead Dragon
  • Loot/Exp improvements: Betrayed Wraith, Blightwalker, Demon Wolf, Eye of the Deep, Flesh Eating Disease, Giant Mummy, Hydra, Ironshell, Juggernaut, Lava Walker, Leviathan, Molten Corpse, Renegade Warlock, Samurai Master, Samurai, Serpent Spawn, Shinobi, Silversting, Stone Dragon, Surface Hackler, Tear, Virulent Dragon, Woo Loo Loo

     DAILY MONSTER BONUSES!

Today we launched an exciting new system: Daily monster bonuses!

When the server starts up, it will select a handful of monsters to receive a major boost. There are currently three types of boost: +75% exp, +50% exp, and +33% exp. We plan to add more boosts at some point in the distant future. Enjoy!

     DECOR, SOYA, QOL!

We released a major update to two NPCs: Soya and Saria. Soya now buys over 50+ new items, so clean out your depots and claim some crystal coin stacks! Saria also has tons of new furniture items to purchase, ask her about her many categories of decor:

  • Chairs
  • Tables
  • Plants
  • Lights
  • Containers
  • Pillows (small, round, and square!)
  • Tapestries (sorry, still broken)
  • Dolls
  • Pets
  • Cards
  • Games
  • More!
Other enhancements
  • Skill rings have been renamed to skill training rings, because they have always provided 8x faster skill gain when equipped
  • Skill rings are now sold by Maria (a rune NPC), but are quite expensive compared to acquiring them from monsters - this cost is actually the same cost as mana fluids per time spent
  • The mana well in Slybrooke (where you can purchase magic level training) now uses the correct mana fluid formula, and only consumes 5 soul, making it exactly equivalent to just purchasing and using all those mana fluids
  • Blessing cost now scales with ranklevel, resulting in much LOWER prices at low levels, and HIGHER prices at higher levels
Monster loot adjustments
  • Death Grip +
  • Dragon +/-
  • Smuggler +
  • Vampros Bat +
  • Made a lot of "bad" uncommon items more common, so they don't display the pop-up words
And finally, two new raids!

(This news post occured after March 17th, but the update was introduced on March 17th!)

NEW CITY: CORONAS... AND A SOMBER DEDICATION

Visit the new/old/familiar island city of Coronas! Not a home to fancy hunting grounds or wild quests, but rather a peaceful, idyllic island.

This past weekend, we lost a friend of the server. Nate "Techno Quiettoe" passed away in an unexpected and tragic accident. We dedicate Coronas (A.K.A. Fibula) to Nate, in honor of our many hours training there. Rest in peace, friend. We'll always miss you.

WEAPON UPDATE PART #1, MONSTER IMPROVEMENTS, NEW QUESTS!

One-handed melee weapons have received a TON of attention on this patch. There are now 15 one-handed melee weapons that can be found with 50 or more attack. These weapons are available via drops, quests, and daily spawns, and can especially be found on many epic monsters.

As part of this change, we added new technology to allow epic monsters to drop new items that their non-epic counterparts cannot. Gone are the days of limited and boring loot drops, as now epics can have their own RARE and UBER-RARE items!

Monster adjustments

  • Scarier: Berserk Dragons, Black Knight, Dragon Lords, Heroes, Hydras
  • Tankier: Berserk Dragons, Flesh Thaumaturges
  • Wimpier: Bone Beasts, Fierce Commanders, Flesh Eating Diseases, Necron Maestros, Poison Elementals, Slivers, Soothsayers, Shatter Sorcerers
  • Loot improvements: Chimeras, Crystal Spiders, Dark Torturers, Destroyers, Diabolic Imps, Hellhounds, Death Grips, Demons, Fighting Nobles, Furies, Giant Mummies, Gravelords, Hellfire Fighters, Lava Walkers, Maws of the Deep, Molten Corpses, Nightmares, Nobles, Plaguesmiths, Vampire Lords, Virulent Dragons
  • Loot improvements could include weapons from the update, but also include items to sell, improve the profit of creatures, as well as other gear for any number of vocations: tank, magic, physical, and more.
  • Loot reductions: Heroes, Ice Witches, Undead Dragons, Warlocks
  • Reduced experience: Massive Fire Elementals
New quests!

There are at least 6 new quest chests scattered throughout the lands. Where? Check out the Cultist Catacombs north of Avia. Elician island is almost always a sure bet. Mystic Island? Maybe. Naratar? Unlikely.

     HIGH-END RANK REBALANCE, SORCERER/DRUID NERFS

The damage bonus granted by rank 40-75 has been reduced substantially.

We know that this controversial change is a major nerf to our highest end players. Damage in the game has been incredibly high since launch, and we needed to reduce it in order to keep the existing years of content relevant. While we are planning to introduce tons of new content, there's only so many things we can accomplish in a given month, with our small team size. Rest assured that more monster changes are coming to improve combat overall, and make the game feel more fair as a result.

Vocation balance

  • Sorcerer has lost access to the ring of fire spell, pending rework.
  • The healing wind spell has been removed from the game.
  • Sorcerer/druid damage was incredibly overtuned at higher ranks (30+) to the tune of 3-6x stronger combos than any other vocation. Their power level has been reduced substantially, but they still have exceptionally strong combos with high-end runes and wands.
  • Samurais now have a substantial armor and defense bonus
  • Archer rune damage has been increased by a bit over 50%, as it was incredibly lower after the prior balance update
  • Archers now know the Arrow Rain spell
  • Paladin's defense and armor multipliers were slightly reduced
  • Item balance: Gear that granted Magic Attack now grants Magic %, which provides a multiplier to all magic damage (damage that would use the magic level formula, not a weapon skill formula). All magic attack items have been rebalanced as a result.

     PIRATES AND ASSASSINS SQUASHING BUGS?

  • Vocation balance
    • Added new tools to fine-tune vocations in a lot of categories.
    • Pirate spells have been reduced in mana cost, and increased in damage, versatility and range (in most cases).
    • Assassin's Shuriken Storm deals increased damage.
    • Mages now deal significantly less damage with ranged weapons, but staff and wand damage has been slightly increased.
    • Necromancer direct damage has been reduced substantially, as they have received many scaling buffs to summoners and were dealing incredibly high damage, higher than intended.
  • Monster adjustments
    • Warlocks are now more dangerous, and properly summon a friend.
    • Necron Maestros now keep less distance, and spam summons less frequently.
    • Soothsayers now spam summons less frequently.
  • Dragon claw is now a one-handed exotic weapon.
  • The Avenger exotic weapon has been buffed.
  • Fixed a bug where mana fluids gave substantially more mana than they should for higher rank characters.
  • Fixed a bug where rune damage was through the roof on non-magic classes.
  • Fixed a bug where magic attack would affect spells that scale off of skills (Rule of thumb: skill-scaling = physical damage, magic-scaling = magical damage, and the element itself doesn't matter).
  • Improved some houses here and there with additional training monks, dustbins, depot access, and other ammenities.
  • More map improvements here and there!
  • Nerfed Rookers.

     HEALING, ARMOR, BLOCKERS, OH MY!

One of the major goals of the relaunch of Phoenix is to make combat more tactical. One-shots were commonplace in the endgame of Phoenix - but we say no more! We want combat to be a tactical affair, with wars of attrition against high-end opponents, and diversity in team hunts.

One of the steps we must take on the way there is to reduce both healing and monster damage across the board. While we intend to adjust monsters (especially Epic creatures) in a near future patch, today brings with us a major rebalancing to healing.

Comparisons and example numbers in the below section will feature ranklevel 500 characters - a strong midgame character, with appropriate skills and magic level.

  • Healing
    • Healing on ALL classes was substantially rebalanced
    • Druids should notice a substantial increase, especially for the Heal Friend spell.
    • Knights and pirates should notice a minor increase.
    • All other vocations should notice a decrease.
    • Healing multiplier: All vocations now have a healing modifier that is independent of the damage modifier, for finer balance control without affecting DPS.
    • Mana fluids now scale much better with ranks, providing generally more sustained healing for Sorcerers, Druids, and Necromancers.
    • The Full Healing rune is now only usable by druids, knights and pirates.
    • The cost of Full Healing was reduced SUBSTANTIALLY.
    • Recovery spells have been completely overhauled - Now they provide a single healing-over-time effect that lasts 20-60 seconds. This single effect is much more potent than the previous effect, but does not stack.
    • Health Regeneration has been increased for all non-mage vocations across the board, especially at higher ranks.
    • Fixed a bug where Health Regeneration didn't scale at the right ratio with ranks.
  • Blocking
    • Partial block's frequency has been reduced, and requires about 15% higher defense to partial block the same damage as before.
    • Paladin's defense effectiveness has been reduced by 18%.
  • Armor
    • Monster armor has been rebalanced completely, and no longer provides a massive flat damage reduction.
    • As a result, many vocations damage is buffed versus high armor monsters, but especially Knights, Pirates, and rapid repeating spells like Repeating Magic Missile, or Shuriken Throw.
    • Player armor's flat damage reduction has been reduced by 33%, but percentage armor reduction has been increased by 15%. This will be roughly neutral for low-to-mid armor characters.
  • Melee damage weapons now have lower damage variance, from 70-100% -> 85-100%, that's a 7.5% increase in autoattack damage!
  • Added a DOZEN new raids.
  • Floor change exhaustion has been reduced to 2 seconds.
  • Spellbook is now way cooler.
  • !rankexp now shows the experience needed for your next 10 ranks.
  • Healing is now shown in floating combat text.
  • Added a new type of RARE loot pop-up!
  • Made it so "UNCOMMON!" loot pop-ups appeared for slightly fewer items (1 in 25 chance).
  • Looking at a player or yourself will now show your rank, level, and difficulty.
  • Henrik van der Decken can now be tortured in new ways.
  • Fixed a bug with regular Energy Beam's damage being too high.
  • Nerfed Rookers.
  • Introduced new bugs into the game.

     GRAND CENTRAL BUGFIX

Today we deployed a minor patch that fixes a ton of bugs, and a few important balance changes. We also lightly revamped a few areas on the map, notably Epic Dragon Lords below Crusaders.

  • Almost every container (corpse, bags!) has at least 10 capacity now
  • Reduced the difficulty:experience bonus ratio from 1:1 to 1:0.8, reducing the experience at higher difficulties.
  • Reduced the difficulty:experience bonus ratio in parties from 1:1 to 1:0.6
  • Fixed? a bug with party experience that allowed "experience funneling"
  • Fixed bugs with invalid items and loot, such as earmuffs, pitfalls, lockers, and mysterious maps
  • Dark Torturers now properly drop key rings
  • Soya's text on many items was updated
  • Fixed several kinds of corpses that didn't decay properly
  • Fixed numerous website bugs on the highscores/lookup/advancements pages
  • Highscores and lookup now properly calculate total experience gained... probably
  • Level 300 experience is now capped after a certain threshold
  • Fixed 83,713 additional map bugs (give or take)

  • Players now generate a soul point every 20 seconds (up from 5)
  • Create food spells now require more soul points
  • Automatic restarts are now every 7-8 hours instead of 16-18 hours (daily spawn efficacy will be reduced in a later patch)

    Behold, launch day patch notes!

    • New vocation: Assassins - A deadly melee class with high mobility, and the ability to dual wield.
