     LOCATION RESET

In order to solve a number of "black hole" problems that have built up in the past month, we did a location reset on all characters today. Everyone should be logged in at the Naratar temple now, this may require you to reset your hometowns.

     VOCATION BALANCE UPDATE #8

This vocation balance update focuses primarily on our down and dirty physical classes.

The first thing that players will notice is a 12% damage increase to their melee and distance autoattacks. In addition, the mechanics of the haste spells have been changed. Haste now lasts 90 seconds, strong haste lasts 60 seconds, and vigorous haste lasts 180 seconds. In addition, all haste spells now grant 100 levels of run speed, no matter what level you are. Low levels will enjoy this change as they can speed around much faster than normal with haste up. On the high end, the maximum benefit of the haste spells has been changed to make players move slightly slower. This will greatly improve the PVP experience by allowing melee classes to better keep in touch with their opponents, as well as allowing players more time to react as characters will move a bit slower.

Next up, a few particular classes got some direct attention:

* Knights now receive a new "rage" spell at magic level 13. This powerful spell increases the knight's melee attack speed by 3 times for a short duration.
* Pirates have improved range on both hand cannon and long cannon, as well as higher damage on long cannon.
* Berserk has improved damage
* Paladins divine supremacy has been lowered in damage.
* Archers have a new spell, "sniper shockwave" that deals significant damage in a ring around the archer, dealing better damage while maintaining range.
* Full healing will restore slightly more hp

Finally, a few non-balance improvements have been made. Now when you look at an item, the game will tell you how many of that item you are carrying. This is very handy for quickly selling loot, or checking how many fluids, runes, and so forth you are carrying.

You see a boots of haste.
It weighs 7.50 oz. (You have: 7)


The experience selling orb should now be functional once again. The experience orb will automatically lower your character's level when your experience falls below the amount needed for that level.

Items that provide a boost to magic damage will now display that boost as MgAtk. A few new lower level items have received attack and magic attack bonuses, such as the devil helmet and blue robe.

A bug was fixed with both death rings and the golden bow. These items should now properly increase the physical damage you deal by 10% each.

     UPDATE!

A new town has been added, the jungle-styled town of Marika. This new town provides an interesting twist: the entire region is no-loss PVP - a veritable bloodbath of fighting in a fun town setting!

The regions around Marika feature new creatures and hunting grounds - higher levels should enjoy the new underwater hunting grounds, while lower levels will enjoy the cavernous underground. In addition, you may find new caverns, passages, and hunting grounds in the lands under southern Avia.

We have also rebalanced the loot of several monsters, such as Quara, Pirates and Dragons. In addition, you may find new rares on certain Epic creatures, such as Swordmasters, Infernals, Dark Torturers, and more!

Finally, a few minor balance adjustments have been made.
* The range of violent hatred has been slightly decreased
* The damage of fierce berserk has been increased and normalized
* Archer damage has been increased by 5.8%
* The damage of Death and Holy turrets has been lowered significantly
* The damage of all other turrets has been raised slightly

     PVP TOURNAMENT SATURDAY!

The PVP tournament previously scheduled to appear on our One Year Anniversary test server will finally be happening this Saturday, on July 18th!

Saturday, July 18th at 1:00 PM EST.

Here are the details:

The tournament will feature 1v1 matches in "season" style, followed by a ladder elimination best of 3 playoff series. To break it down:

* You must be rank-level 1000 or above
* You will fight in the Naratar Mini Arena, southeast of temple. Deaths do not count.
* Most special amulets/rings will not be allowed. The only allowed amulets/rings with a duration or number of charges are: life rings and death rings
* You will fight every other player once, 1v1
* If you are one of the top 4/8/16 (depending on number of participants) players, you will go on to the playoffs
* In the playoffs you will fight your opponent in up to three fights, whoever wins two of them will win
* If you're the winner, you will proceed to fight the next opponent, until everyone is eliminated!
* Then you win!

First place will receive a golden trophy for display inside their house - they will be able to keep this trophy until the next PVP tournament! First place will also receive 10 million gold and 20 cupies in prize money.
Second place will receive a silver trophy for the same time. Second place will receive 5 million gold and 5 cupies.
Third place (technically the finals loser with the best record) will receive a bronze trophy and 3 million gold.
All playoff participants will receive 2 million gold.
All participants will receive 100 legendary medallions.

New at the Garden of Avatars, all characters can sell their experience. In addition, rank-level 350 characters can now exceed the 10 billion experience cap, in order to sell experience of their own. Here are the rates:
* Normal - 10k per 1 million experience
* Diehards - 70k per 1 million experience

     IMPROVED PARTIES AND BUG FIXES!

Many players have requested an important party update, and now it is finally here. Players in parties will no longer have to worry about harming each other while hunting, regardless of their PVP status! This will make it much more appealing to be a PVP player, as you will not suffer any additional negatives beyond PVP itself - you will be able to hunt with your friends in a team just like anyone else.

Important note: Actual PVP zones still allow partied players to hurt each other. These zones are treated like REAL PVP zones and require careful hunting!

In addition, we've expanded the party commands. Here is a full list:

!invite
!join
!kick
!leave

All of these commands are accessable at any time, so you can now leave parties at any time, with no need to wait for your "combat swords" to drop.

In addition, a bug has been fixed that prevented summons from working in PVP outside of the arena. This was thought previously fixed, however it should be fixed for sure now.

The new command !bless was added, allowing you to view the blessings you currently have. Need to make sure you're protected before you go out to hunt? Simply use !bless.

     VOCATION BALANCE UPDATE #7 - NEW VOCATION: Engineer!

Today was a big vocation balance update. The full details of which you can see with the link at the end of the post...

The most important addition today however was...

Engineers!

A brand new vocation, engineers play as a solo class with strong and versatile support options. They lay traps and summon turrets to help them fend off their foes, as well as using handy gadgets and other supportive magic! Engineers can use every weapon type in the game including wands, however they are not proficient at any of them.

Hopefully you will have as much fun trying out the new engineer class as I did making it. Enjoy!

     SMALL UPDATE

From feedback on the forums and internal discussions, PVP damage has been adjusted to 33% instead of 40%.

Diehards will now cap out at level 100. This should provide a better level for PVP and balance.

Finally, you may have noticed your characters moving slightly slower. This is part of some adjustments to movement speed and paralyze to provide a little less frantic PVP environment.

Numerous bugs related to PVP/diehard/experience abuse have been fixed, in addition to quite a few characters being punished for abuse.

     BLESSINGS

Ever felt like you could use a little extra "oomph"?

Now is your chance! Visit Diviner Jacob at the Naratar Chapel and you can purchase blessings. Blessings currently come in three flavors: life, lesser power, lesser protection. A blessing of life will shield you from all loss on death, the same exact way that the classic amulet of life will. Lesser power will slightly increase your damage, while lesser protection will decrease the damage that you receive.

The downside is that blessings WILL fade away when you die!

These blessings, and more in the future, are available now! Take your wallet and get enchanted!

     PVP FOR ALL!

Our initial success with the Fury server taught us that PVP is a fun and desireable part of SolusOT. Using what we learned from the Fury server, we decided to create a new option that would allow ALL players to choose whether or not they would like to join PVP!

This means that you can enjoy PVP-enforced gameplay on the Phoenix server. To become a PVP player you may talk to the PVP Master west of the Naratar depot. Think hard before you make your decision! At this time the change is irreversable (and may stay that way forever)!

With this, however, we have other somewhat sad news.

In order to maintain the speed and reduce lag, we have decided to close the Fury server. Since all players can play PVP on Phoenix if they desire, there is no real reason to have the Fury server running any longer.

With this change, we will allow you to move your characters from Fury to Phoenix if they are rank-level 150 or above. In order to begin the transfer process, you can submit a support ticket. Tell us what your Fury character is, and what account you would like it to be added to on Phoenix. Please provide the account number of both the Fury character and the Phoenix account.

Important notes: Players that come from Fury will be automatically flagged for PVP. In addition, only the items on your character and in your depot will be transferred. Clean out your houses before you submit a ticket.


...but wait, there's more!

We've also added a special feature called "diehard" characters. If you choose to be a diehard character (at the same NPC) your character will max out at rank-level 50, but receive a few special bonuses.
* Nothing bad will happen when you die, you won't lose experience or skills
* You can travel to the Garden of Avatars and SELL any experience you earn for gold!

Once you become diehard, you can never go past rank-level 50 - so this is only for players who really love to PVP and want to PVP at a nice low level where things move a little bit slower than normal.

     NECROMANCER UPDATES

While the main portion of the anniversary update already happened, the necromancer portion took a little extra time. But now it's here too!

Necromancers will enjoy summons in PVP on Phoenix now. In addition, necromancers will receive some pretty big bonuses:
* Summons will only cost 40% of their listed cost. You still need the max mana that the list says in order to be ABLE to summon them, it just won't use up all that mana every time. This allows a necromancer to quickly bring back fallen allies in the midst of combat.
* Summons will enjoy exhaustion-free summon casting, be able to instantly recover a summon without risking death by not healing, or sacrificing too much damage. This should help greatly in balancing out the damage decrease that necromancers took with the rest of the update.
* The !res ability will now place summons around the necromancer in a square, instead of all going to the necromancers location, causing debugs. This is subject to change if abuse mechanisms are found!

     ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY - SUMMER UPDATE!

Our one year anniversary is finally here - and so is our summer update!

This update features dozens of new skills and spells for all the vocations, as well as numerous other changes.

After the demon attack on Avia, all citizens fled with the help of the GMs creating a safe path to the Avia boat. Citizens sailed to Naratar, seeking safety from the demon hordes. Naratar is now the main town where new players are created, and Naratar has been revised with new quests, new hunting grounds, and more!

New combat formulas have resulted in damage changes for all players, as well as improved damage reduction from all armor.

And of course... the legendary medallions! Finally, explore to discover what they are used for!

     UPDATE TEASER #2

As part of our One Year Anniversary update, we've revisited many of the formulas and balance issues surrounding the vocations.

An enhanced armor formula will ensure you're getting the most out of your armor, and every point will be all the more valuable in the update - in our tests a standard ranklevel 1050 knight was able to block two Epic Infernals without any aid whatsoever using the powerful armor upgrades.

The effect of boosting equipment, such as boots of arcane furor, golden bow, and death plate will be increased, allowing your equipment to help you inflict even more pain on the enemy.

Well over 30 new spells and skills take advantage of all new features - expect new spells to do things never before seen!

Set your hometown to any of the major cities, and start new characters in alternate cities! Explore the entire SolusOT map with ease!

     UPDATE TEASER #1

Our summer game update is just around the corner, and to think of all the goodies we have for you!

It'll be like Christmas in June!

Every vocation is going to have something new to smile about in the update, with numerous new spells and abilities to enjoy! We'll list just a few of the many abilities that are coming in!

Knights
Challenge monsters fearlessly with two new improved challenge spells - a challenge that heals your party and yourself while calling the enemies forward - or cast a challenge that is gauranteed to keep the enemies on you for a while!

Paladins
Utilize your divine supremacy to dish out damage while simultaneously recovering your mana! Or imbue an area with a holy aura dealing damage over time to all enemies that stay inside.

Archers
Put your health regeneration to good use with the guardian spell, sending 25% of your damage to your hp and the rest to your mana, allowing your regeneration to keep you alive longer!

Necromancers
Heal your summons with the new draw mass darkness spell, healing everything in the area for a large amount!

Pirates
Talk like a pirate with revised spell words for all your favorite spells. In addition, fire your blunderbuss or hand cannon for solid ranged damage, or use your taunt to challenge the enemy to come forward while simultaneously dealing damage!

Sorcerers
Destroy targets with your ultimate explosion with improved range, and call down utter destruction dealing MASSIVE damage over time to all enemies in the area.

Samurai
Destroy your enemies with violent hatred, dealing massive damage in a sizable area, or give your enemies a flashback of pain, rapidly cutting them 20 times with ethereal blades!

Druids
Spread a vile plague dealing massive physical damage as well as poisoning your victims for outrageous poison damage. Or play the good guy and heal your friends with the improved healing wind spell.

     COMING SOON - CHARACTER TRANSFERS

Coming soon we will be allowing automatic character transfers. You will be allowed to transfer your characters between Phoenix and Fury using the website for a small price in cupies. The system will be so easy to use that you could transfer a character back and forth as much as you want, if you'd like!

More details will emerge soon - as more players reach ranklevel 1050 on Fury. One rule is currently known for sure: you must sell your house before you transfer a character. Keep an eye out!

     IMPROVED RUNE MERGE AND NEW RUMORS

Today we added a new rune merging option for characters who have reached ranklevel 1050. The spell "adeta gran mas" will allow these players to merge their runes into huge stacks of 250x, instead of 100x.

In addition, rumors abound about custom home manufacturing... what could these rumors be talking about? Find out soon!

     VOCATION BALANCE UPDATE #6

Some significant changes were made today, primarily involving non-magical vocations.

* Divine caldera and arrow rain have had their power decreased
* Meteor arrow and blitz shot have had their power increased
* Berserk has had its power increased
* The speed bonus of vigorous haste has been increased. Archers and pirates now learn vigorous haste
* New spell: Healing wind will automatically heal you each second for 10 seconds after you cast it. The heals are not quite as powerful as an ultimate healing, and will not remove paralyze, but the spell is useful for keeping you alive in tough situations. This spell is learnable by sorcerers and druids

More interesting balance changes have been made today. Some of these new changes should greatly balance some of the primary problems certain vocations have been experiencing, especially melee vocations.

* Paladin's divine caldera and arrow rain have been lowered about 10% in damage
* Violent will has been slightly increased in power
* Pirates and knights now have access to a new spell: paralysis shockwave, an explosion of paralysis causing damage
* Samurais now have access to a new spell: paralysis wave, a wave of paralysis inducing damage

     VOCATION BALANCE UPDATE #4

Some significant changes were made today for vocation balance.

* The mana shield penalty for samurais has been removed
* Violent will has been lowered significantly in power
* Pirates will now gain magic level faster than knights, unfortunately this will not apply fully to existing characters (meaning pirates will have to train their magic level to receive the full bonuses)
* For shielding above 100, maximum hp gains have been increased to 50 points
* For magic level above 100, maximum mana gains have been increased to 80 points

Rank 10+ parties will no longer share experience with players who are less than rank 10. Players rank 9 and lower can still share experience when partied together, however.

     MINI BALANCE UPDATE

Another balance update has been implemented today!

* Pirates damage has been increased by 10%
* Archers damage has been increased by 10%
* Sorcerers damage has been increased by 8%
* Druids damage has been increased by 8%

     A USE FOR PEARLS? AND BUG FIXES

The mystery of pearls will finally be revealed. Search Cerebus for the Disciple of Witchcraft, an NPC that will exchange your pearls for special goodies. Two clue keywords: death ring, pendant of energy. You must figure out the rest yourself!

The death ring has been substantially improved, and now provides the following bonuses:
* 10 of all fighting skills
* 10% increase in physical damage
* -10 to shielding
* 10 minute duration

The life ring has also been improved, and now provides a 10% boost to magic damage.

In addition, a very important bug was fixed today which will cause a number of players to receive damage bonuses. Mages especially will now deal more damage.
The bug that was fixed makes it so that equipment that increases your physical damage by a percentage (such as the arbalest and death legs) or your magic damage by a percentage (hood of the warlocks, boots of arcane furor, and high-end wands) now function properly.

     PLAYER MESSAGES

Players can now share their messages with the entire world, using the broadcasted red text that GMs do. Simply find the Cupie Trader and ask to send a "message"! It costs a mere 2 cupies per message. Enjoy!

     VOCATION BALANCE UPDATE #3

The third in our vocation balance series is here!

* Increased mana regeneration based on level/rank for all vocations!
* Fist skill now adds a bonus to ranged damage
* Archers gain fisting quicker than before
* Paladins and pirates no longer gain fisting as quickly as before
* Most pirates have had their fisting significantly lowered
* New pirate spell: ransack
* All players will notice a small increase in damage, between 3-5%
* All players will notice a small decrease in damage that they take from monsters, between 2-3%
* All players now receive 20 hp per shielding (above 10) and 30 mana per magic level

In addition, one other change was made as part of an upcoming change: when you gain more than 1 billion experience, it shows up as 1 million in your client. This is so that you can see your full experience, rounded a little bit, even as you increase up past 1 billion.

     MASSIVE SERVER UPGRADE!

The parts for the new server upgrades are finally in! We'll be moving back to our traditional (and far superior) hosting method that was used in the first 5 months - however now we've juiced up our host computer!

* Quad-core 2.66ghz 6MB cache Intel Core 2 Quad
* 6 gigs of RAM
* Dedicated 14mbps download/2.4mbps upload line (over 4x more upload)
* A brand new dedicated file and web management server!


In addition to these hardware upgrades, I need to purchase some additional networking equipment including 200 feet of CAT6, two gigabit ethernet switches. I'll also be updating the access point firmware and ensuring that all running hardware has the latest firmware during our update downtime.

     IMPROVED WAND DAMAGE

The damage for the top wands has been increased so that mages should do more with wands than distance weapons. Magic level was made much more important for these higher end wands.

     MAP UPDATE

We've added another beautiful map update! The vast new addition of Upper Avia City will provide numerous new houses to live in, as well as a few new spawns. In addition, the cultists have expanded their grasp in their underground hideout. Other new epic monsters have been added, and the Epic Annihilator can be seen for the first time!

     AUTOMATIC RESTARTS

Automatic restarts are now in the game! Every 16-18 hours the game will automatically reboot with a 15 minute warning. This will give everyone a chance to acquire the daily spawns!

     MOVING!

I am currently in the process of moving to Indiana, which has been an extremely involved effort over the last 3 weeks. Unfortunately I haven't been too attentive to the server, but I hope that within 2 weeks time from today I will be back to 100% capacity. Next week during the week, SolusOT will likely move to a new server machine that will have far superior upload bandwidth and better processing power, which should eliminate some lag.

The cupie changes are still coming up, I have everything written up I simply need to get time to add the items to the Cupie Trader NPC and actually fully roll-out the new system.

Additionally, other improvements are coming up such as automatic reboots every 16-24 hours. I am working on some website improvements, and of course we will have continued game improvements such as the quest-heavy new map update that is coming in soon.

Don't forget about player research! There isn't much left to do, so get cracking on those scarabs and unlock the new content!
